Monday, October 6 Angels Win Arkansas Valley Third Straight Year Playing in the last final of the day, the ASC Angels won their third straight AVSA tournament. The team won all four games without giving up a single goal. Marking four wins in a row over their archrivals Harrison, this team simply refused to give up the lead, as they made a one goal score stand up. This was the first time since Fallfest 2005 the Angels & Harrison had squared off in a final. Two down, three to go. Wednesday, September 24 Angels Win Pearl Fall Festival Second Year In A Row The ASC Angels made the drive from Jackson Mississippi back home to Little Rock Sunday evening, & brought home the GOLD! Winning all four games, scoring 21 times & not allowing a goal in the process. Six players scored goals, four handed out assists, & ten made defensive stops, or "clears". A complete team effort from fourteen soccer players. Jordan Whisnant achieved her first clean sheets of the season. One down, four to go. Monday, May 19 Angels Come Up Short in President's Cup The ASC Angels finished their season on a slightly down note this past Sunday, losing in the semifinals to the eventual champion Conway Rush. To a team who has won ten championships & finished runner up nine times, anything less than the final is a strange sensation. This was, however, a learning experience for the team & coaches alike. We will be back next season, better prepared, better conditioned & a better soccer team. This has been an incredible season filled with competition, joy, adversity, new friendships, but most of all, wonderful memories. We played in what has to be one of the greatest finals in Kohl's Cup history. These players can truly call themselves "State Champions". To the team, my coach mates, parents, grandparents & friends of the ANGELS, I say thanks. Coach Charlie
Monday, May 5 ASC ANGELS STATE CHAMPIONS AGAIN!!! The ASC Angels won the 2008 Kohl's American Cup Sunday in a memorable final that went to penalty kicks to determine the outcome. The winner of this tournament traditionally is crowned state champion of the recreational division. This is the second win in three years for the Angels . The team has also been in the final four years in a row. Regulation finished with the Jonesboro Tornados & Angels tied 1-1. Two five minute overtimes went by with no additional goals. ASC went first, hit the crossbar & the ball sailed over the goal. The Tornados made the first kick & their excellent goalie stopped our second shot. Facing a possible 2-0 deficit, things looked bad for the Angels. Then our keeper stopped the first of three consecutive shots, our next three players made goals & the celebration was on! Saturday, April 26 ANGELS CELEBRATE SIX CONSECUTIVE UNDEFEATED SEASONS!!!!!!!! The ASC Angels have now finished undefeated six consecutive league seasons. This dates back to the fall of 2005 registering thirty two wins & four ties. Also includes three unbeaten untied seasons. Five players on the current roster played in all six of these seasons; Jordan Whisnant, Jordan Toler, Samantha Smith, Leah Srebalus & Taylor Ruple. The last regular season game this team lost was in March of 2005. To the players the coaches say, "well done". Sunday, March 30 ANGELS AWARDED FINALIST MEDALS AT FT SMITH SPRING KICKOFF The ASC Angels continue to surprise many soccer fans with their tournament play.(not least of all their coaches) This past weekend the team finished as silver medalists in the Ft Smith Spring classic. Playing as the only recreational team entered , the Angels beat the number two & number four ranked teams in Arkansas & lost to an excellent Norman Oklahoma team. The tournament was shortened, due to inclement weather, thus depriving the team of another shot at Fury 95 Green in the final.(well, at least in the minds of the players. The coaches had seen enough of this team for one weekend) This group of young women continues to play well in big games. I wonder what they could accomplish if we could get them to practice?????? Congratulations ladies!!
Monday, March 3 ANGELS MAKE IT THREE IN A ROW!!! THE ANGELS WON THEIR THIRD CONSECUTIVE TOURNAMENT THIS PAST WEEKEND TAKING THE TUPELO SPRING CLASSIC FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW. THE TEAM WON ALL FOUR GAMES SCORING 11 GOALS, & ALLOWING JUST 2, PLAYING IN THE U-14 DIVISION. THE HARDEST GAME WAS WITH OXFORD ,MS.. THE ANGELS FELL BEHIND 1-0, THEN ROARED BACK WITH TWO GOALS OF THEIR OWN, CLINCHING THE VICTORY. THE BACK LINE WAS SUPERB & OUR GOALIE WAS MAGNIFICENT. SIX DIFFERENT PLAYERS SCORED THE 11 GOALS. A COMPLETE TEAM EFFORT. Sunday, October 21 Fall 2007 Season The fall 2007 season ended a bit too soon for some , but we(the coaches) believe the right decision was made. We played in 15 games, winning 13 with two games ending in a tie. The Angels participated in two tournaments, winning both. The team scored 50 goals & gave up 5(one of those a penalty kick) throwing 10 shutouts along the way. One goal was scored on a corner kick(we need to work on this) & 28 assists were handed out. This means that 56% of the goals scored were the direct result of TEAMWORK! Seven players were involved in all 15 games, fourteen played more than one position & thirteen different players scored goals this season! Five players had time at goalie, handling 44 shots on goal, with Jordan Whisnant being the primary keeper with 83% of the time. That is 40 SAVES! The figures are a bit misleading, since we only played two tournaments. The coaches do feel this team accomplished a great deal considering; seven new players, moving to the big field, & several missing numerous practice & games. This should change in the spring season, as there are less activities to compete with their time. We will play in five tournaments, in addition to our league games. Hope to see you then! Sunday, October 14 ANGELS GO UNDEFEATED 5TH STRAIGHT SEASON The ASC Angels finished their regular league season today with a 5-0 shutout of Conway at Burns Park. This marks the 5th straight season this team has not lost a league game & finished in first place. A 0-0 tie with Hot Springs was the only blemish on an otherwise perfect season. (HS had a previous tie) The season numbers are impressive; six wins, one tie, five shutouts, thirty goals scored & 2 goals allowed. Sunday, October 7 "ANGELS WIN AVSA THIRD TIME IN FOUR YEARS" The latest version of the ASC ANGELS has taken their place as CHAMPIONS of the the ARKANSAS VALLEY soccer tournament. The 2007 team has now kept alive the winning streak that began in 2004. This team has never lost a tournament game here. This year's record of three wins & one tie was good enough to capture first place in a five team bracket. Knowing they needed a shutout in ther last game to win, these girls stepped up to the challenge & simply blew away the Jacksonville Sirens 7-0. This is the same team we struggled with earlier in the season, in a 3-1 game that saw the Angels behind most of the game. It shows the improvement in our players. Monday, September 24 ANGELS "CHAMPIONS OF PEARL FALL FESTIVAL" The ASC Angels traveled to Jackson Mississippi last weekend & came home with the championship of the girls U-14 division. Playing up in age & certainly in size, this group of girls refused to back down from the very physical play. Several players were forced to leave the field. Competing with only 13 members of the team, some girls played the entire game. The Angels were a perfect 4-0, allowing only 1 goal during the tournament. It is safe to say, the good people from Mississippi now know the "ASC ASC ASC" chant by heart.Several parents made the trip & cheered the girls on. Pleasant accommodations, good food,a bit of bonding & a lot of soccer! A good time was had by all.
Monday, August 20 THE ANGELS WELCOME RETURNING & NEW PLAYERS!!!!!!!!!! Coach Stan & I would like to welcome ALL the players & parents!!!! The teams who wore these colors before you have left some big shoes to fill. We have no doubt you will succeed. Thursday, May 31 Spring 2007 Season in Review The 2007 spring season is in the books & I wanted to share some thoughts & numbers with you. We played 23 games from February to May, 15 won, 6 lost & 2 tied. WE played in 5 tournaments, winning 1 & placing runner-up in 3. The team was undefeated in league play. They scored 58 goals against 23 given up with 10 shutouts. The combined goalies handled some 130+ shots, giving up only the 23 goals. Some figures coach Stan & I are especially proud of;19 assists, 7 corner kicks for scores & 10 different players scoring goals. We began the season in February at Tupelo Miss.with wind, rain& bitter cold. Finished in May at Burns Park with bright sunshine & warm days. Started with 14 players, finished with 12. Only 4 players participated in all 23 games. These statics show the need for a strong bench. Every single player on this team had moments where Stan & I looked at each other & said"did you see that?" Most players improved & no one regressed. Consider this:We won the first tournament of the year with 4 brand new players & 3 veterans missing, we only played 4 games in one 6 week stretch during March to April, (I believe this contributed to our play at Winrock) we lost to Jonesboro 3-0 & came back to play them to a 0-0 tie for 60 minutes, 3 players were not allowed to play in the Kohl's Cup leaving us with one sub, after 2 players left the team & made it to the final, we put in a goalie who had never played there before & finished in the final 3 straight times, we made it to the final of the President's Cup as a recreational team against some of the best classic teams around. All of this shows these girls are a TEAM!!! By season's end they were playing their best soccer & improving by leaps & bounds. I asked each girl on the team after last tournament if they had a fun season, & everyone said"yes". Stan & I want to thank all the parents for their help & understanding during the season. Some of you went the extra mile. Your children are the ones who benefit from this! This was a wonderful season from my viewpoint & I plan to coach as long as I am needed. I hope to see all of you back next year! Thursday, May 31 ASC Angels turn heads in President's Cup The Arkansas Soccer Club Angels probably made some new fans with their play in the recent President's Cup tournament. The Angels surprised everyone but themselves making it to the final. Along the way they knocked off the defending champions & came from behind in two games. They also had to beat the first place finisher from the other bracket to gain the final. Well done ANGELS!!! Monday, February 26 "ANGELS CHAMPIONS OF TUPELO SPRING CLASSIC" The ASC ANGELS opened their spring 2007 season in high fashion, winning the prestigious TUPELO SPRING CLASSIC! This is an annual tournament held in Tupelo Mississippi, and traditionally draws strong teams from several states. This year's event featured teams from Miss.,Ala.,Ten.,La.& Ark.. With three veteran players not making the trip & four new players added to the roster the expectations were unsure to say the least. Playing in less than ideal conditions featuring strong wind, rain & cold conditions the players responded with gritty & determined effort. The team scored 14 goals while giving up only 1. The Angels defeated the Saltillo Stingers in the final 2-0, scoring two goals in the first half against the wind, then playing suffocating defense in the second half. The Stingers had scored 16 goals leading up to the final. Congratulations to the latest addition of the ARKANSAS SOCCER CLUB ANGELS! Tuesday, October 3 "ANGELS WIN ARKANSAS VALLEY TOURNAMENT AGAIN" THE TRIP HOME FROM RUSSELLVILLE WAS SWEET FOR THE ASC ANGELS THIS PAST SUNDAY EVENING. THEY HAD JUST BEEN CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF THEIR DIVISION FOR THE SECOND TIME IN THREE SEASONS(LAST YEAR WAS A BITTER DISAPPOINTMENT TO THE TEAM WHEN THEY FINISHED SECOND ON POINTS WITH THREE WINS & ONE TIE IN A ROUND ROBIN FORMAT) THE ANGELS WERE HAVING NONE OF THAT THIS YEAR, AS THEY WON ALL FOUR GAMES, GIVING UP ONE GOAL IN THEIR FIRST GAME & THROWING 3 CONSECUTIVE SHUTOUTS INCLUDING AN IMPRESSIVE 2-0 WIN OVER THE JONESBORO TORNADOES IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. THE ANGELS SCORED WITH LESS THAN TWO MINUTES GONE IN THE GAME & NEVER LOOKED BACK. CONGRATULATIONS TO A VERY DESERVING GROUP OF YOUNG LADIES! |
