Alsip Little League: Draft Rules

Draft Rules

The Draft System

When a thorough tryout program has been completed (if needed), the last-place team of the preceding season gets the first choice in every round of the draft, the next to last place team gets the second selection in every round and so on.

If all the players are been put back into an open draft system, then the managers will draw numbers to determine who will select the first player.

Options

Managers:
Manager who have a child or children available to be drafted must pick them by the round designated by their age. (12 yr old by round 3), (11 yr old by round 4). If a manger has two children available they must be drafted in the 3rd and 4th rounds regardless of age. A manager may only designate a coach once in that league level. If a manager designates a coach in his first year of Major league, and that coach decides not to return the following year, a manager may not designate another coach unless both the Coach and the coaches child/children both have left the league.

Coaches:
For a manager to be able to designate a coach, the person being designated must have been a coach or manager at any level in the league for the previous 2 years (Major, Junior league only). If a designated coach has children available in the draft, then the child /children must be picked in the next consecutive rounds after the managers child/children, regardless of age.

Note: If between the manager and the designated coach there are 3 or more children involved in the draft, then the first managers child will be moved up to the 2nd round of the draft with any other managers children being picked in the next consecutive round, then followed by the designated coaches child/children in the next consecutive round. This is to prevent red-shirting.

Example:         A manager has 1 child, his designated coach has 2 children, they must be picked in rounds 2, 3, and 4.
A manager has a 11 yr old in the draft and a designated coach has 1 child, they must be picked in rounds 3 and 4.
A manager has an 11 yr old in the draft and no designated coach, that child must be drafted in the 4th round, because of the age rule.

*****A manager must notify the President and Player agent before the draft to exercise the designated coach option.*****

Siblings:
When there are two or more siblings available in the draft, and the 1st of the siblings is picked, the manager automatically gets the next sibling/s in the next consecutive rounds.

If a returning player has a sibling/s available in the draft, the manager automatically gets the sibling/s in their age appropriate round or next available round after the managers child/ children and the coaches option are taken.

The last-place team of the preceding season gets the first choice in every round of the draft, the next to last place team gets the second selection in every round and so on.

Managers:
A manager who has a child/children available to be selected, is automatically put on the roster and considered returning players. A manager may only designate a coach once in that league level. If a manager designates a coach in his first year of the league, and that coach decides not to return the following year, a manager may not designate another coach unless both the Coach and the coaches child/children both have left the league.

Coaches:
A manager may designate a coach ,with board approval, and the coaches child/children are placed on the teams roster as if they were returning players.

*****A manager must notify the President and Player agent before the draft to exercise the designated coach option.*****

Evening up the roster:
All eligible players names are drawn blindly and placed on teams in order of draft pick until the first team reaches 8 players. Then all the other teams continue to get players drawn to them until all teams have 8 rostered players. At that point the draft continues until all eligible players have been exhausted.

The Board of Directors has the authority to accept, deny, or change any of the draft requests in the interest of what is best for the league and it’s players.
