Sage 14U Fastpitch Captures 2nd at USSSA Invitational
Arlington Sage 14U Girls Softball earned a berth at the USSSA "B" World Series by going 6-2 for the weekend and capturing 2nd place at the USSSA Burke Invitational in Eldersburg, MD over Memorial Day weekend.  The Sage earned the #2 seed in the 12 team field by going 4-1 in pool play including a thrilling come from behind victory scoring 7 runs in the bottom of the 7th to win 9-8.  After a quarterfinal 16-4 win behind strong pitching from Kyra Klontz and multi-hit games from Izzy Linzer and Alayna Kelly, in the semi-finals the Sage were down to their last at-bat trailing only 2-1 behind Charlotte Sheridan's strong pitching, when Sammy Hakim delivered a clutch hit followed by Taylor Ford hit and then steals of 2nd, 3rd and home to win a 3-2 thriller.  Grace Evans and Katie Kaufman led the team in hits and RBIs, and Kinza Baad, Katie Spaeth and Maggie Stewart provided the defensive gems.

So..You Wanna Play Travel Ball !

That's great, but how do you decide which team. There are so many choices in the DC Metro area at every age group and every level.

What you need is a system. A method to break down the big picture into bite size pieces.  Organize and prioritize all the variables so you have a clear understanding of what you are looking for in a travel team, before you make the leap.

  Ron Huling, former Vienna Stars, Yorktown High School and now Shenandoah University Coach has done the legwork and is offering his insight into this thorny question. His paper, "Choosing a Travel Team" is now available for download below. And its FREE !

Sage 12U Wins Williamsburg Classic
===========================
In their season finale, the Sage went 7-0 for the weekend, shocking the bracket with stellar defense and timely hitting to emerge Champion in a 15 team Open tournament.  Sarah Bauman pitcher her 2nd shutout of the weekend en route to a 5-0 win over the Diamond Fever in the semi's, with Talia Zulueta laying down a key 2 strike bunt, followed by hits by Katie Kaufman, Grace Evans, Sammy Hakim and Izzy Linzer to break open a 0-0 game.
In the Final, Kyra Klontz pitched a complete game 7 inning victory, with a masterful mix of Curves, Drops and Change-ups to keep a powerful hitting #1 seed Galaxy team off balance.  In what the Umpire later described as the best defensive game he's ever seen at 12U, Grace Evans and Kinza Baad snagged every bunt, line drive and 1-hopper on the left side of the infield and Taylor Ford as catcher gunned down the tying run at 2nd on an attempted steal.  In the outfield, Sarah Bauman and Talia Zulueta made game saving catches and Katie Kaufman recorded the final out with a leaping catch of a throw to 1st to seal the 5-3 victory and a berth in the 2009 NSA World Series.
Also contributing to the 7 victories with key hits and defensive plays were Rebekah Peterson, Madeline Periandri-Harrelson and Jenna Burnett, and Sammy Hakim also recorded 2 wins on the mound.
