from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit
Airsoft is a fun and active military simulation sport in which many participate in. It is much like paintball.

 Steps

Save up your money.

Get a gun. There are three types of airsoft guns.

There is the spring gun (springer), which uses a high power spring to launch the bb. The downside to this is that after every shot, you have to cock the gun.

There is the electric gun which uses electricity to power the gun. There are three types mainly: the Automatic Electric Gun (AEG), Automatic Electric Pistol(AEP), and the Electric Blow Back Gun (EBB). Usually the AEG is a higher quality gun and you get much more bang for your buck. AEP's are only made by Tokyo Marui and are decent guns. The EBB is an eBay special and usually is a worth less than you paid for it. DO NOT get an EBB unless it is HIGH QUALITY.

Then finally, there is the gas gun (GBB). It uses Green Gas** (see Warnings) to power the gun.
Both electric and gas do not require cocking. Spring guns are very reliable, electric guns fire fast, and gas guns can be powerful and fire fast. However the gas powered air soft guns and the AEG's become exponentially less reliable in cold weather, and the plastic parts found in many air soft guns are prone to becoming brittle.

Find a group of people that are also interested and try to form a team or find a team to join.

You will need a space to play in. A moderately large yard with lots of cover or an urban setting like a beat up shack are good choices.

Choose your game type. The two most common ones are last man/team standing and objective based.

In last man/team standing, you just shoot each other. You and your teammates try to "kill" the other team by shooting them. Hits are based on the honor policy. A hit system should be worked out. Usually one or two hits and your out; sometimes there is the ability to come back to life via a medic or respawn point. The team that kills all the members of the other team wins.

In an objective based game, you assemble two teams and each team has to either defend or attack a target, set up an ambush, the possibilities are endless.

 Tips

Always keep good care of your gun. After each game, clean it well with cloth.

When buying BBs, you have to know what you want:

Heavier BB's like .25, .30 and higher, weigh more. The weight makes them more accurate but they don't travel as far. Lighter BB's like .12 and .20 travel further but are less accurate. There is a balance and you have to select the right BB for the job. Also remember you should never buy less than a .20 in an AEG.

You do not have to get a very expensive gun ($30-40 will do) but the more expensive guns have higher FPS (Feet Per Second). The higher the better. Any guns with low FPS, and the gun will not shoot very far. 250-300 FPS is average and is recommended. Some guns over 400 FPS may be illegal in your state or country. Always check your state or country laws.

Get a gun you are comfortable with. It should not be too heavy and should grip well in your hand.

If possible, inform the local authorities (Police, etc...) that you are holding an airsoft event within the area before playing a wholeday game. Also put posters, banners around the area where an airsoft is to be held. (This will give other people the idea of what really is happening before they get panicked and scared.)

 Warnings

Always wear goggles. Airsoft is a highly dangerous sport, and one should always wear goggles to protect the eyes, and also wear protective clothing such as long pants and sweatshirts.

Don't play where it would be disruptive to your surroundings. Many people have no problem calling the cops on you. Be careful to play on private property you're allowed to play on.

If you own an AEG do not dry fire (Firing without BBs) it too much or you will risk breaking the internal parts.

Green gas has been labratory tested to be a combination of Propane and silicone. Be aware of how and where you load your gas magazines, n.b. don't load them near open flames or other sources of ignition.

If police ever become involved in your game, put in/on your barrel plugs, and put your weapons on the ground; comply with their every command.

ALWAYS keep the orange tip on your gun. Federal law mandates that the muzzle tip of any airsoft gun be painted blaze orange or red. It lets people (more specifically, police officers) know that it is not a lethal weapon.

Never point or shoot at anyone who doesn't have eye protection.

Keep the safety on until the game starts. If you do not have a safety, keep your finger off the trigger.

DO NOT LOOK DOWN THE BARREL OF THE GUN AT ANY TIME.

 Things You'll Need

Airsoft gun.

Goggles. Use only approved eye wear.Eye wear should meet or exceed ANSI high impact standards and that are close face/ foam sealed.Do not use "shooting glasses".

A full-face mask (such as a paintball mask) is also a good idea

plastic or bio-degradable airsoft BB's.

Other people! This game is much better with lots of people.
