Game 1: vs Loudon Red - VA (1-0)
First half was great. A good start. Goal from Chris. However, got away from our possession game and found ourselves on our heels. Hot weather and two subs but got the result we wanted.
Game 2: vs Highland SC Fever - NJ (2-1)
Allowed a goal in the first 3 minutes of play. Seattle down and at half time was down one goal. Second half was the best we ever played. With combinatin plays and key possession, Ian and Cameron scored to mount a come back again a quality team. Excellent team's character. Key win to get in the final. My vote for the game of the year!!!
Game 3: vs NVSC Jr Royals - VA (2-1)
Quickest start with great TEAM work Matt scored within 30 seconds. Putting us in good position. Was able to control the game with the early goal. Changes and changes came and finally resulted in a scramble in the box which Matt was able to capitalize. Second half, we got to comfortable which resulted in sloppy play. With Matt's red card putting us down to 10 player was the result of them scoring with 5 minutes left. Lucky we came out with 3 points. Putting us in the championship game.
Game 4: vs Reston Revolution - VA (1-1)
Knowing that we were in the finals win or lose was the downfall of our play. With Matt's red card in the previous game we were back to just two subs. We had segments of good play which we ended up putting a goal in the net from Chris's headed to an own goal. They scored from lack of focus and gave the momentum to the other team. Game ended in a tie.
Game 5: CASA CAPA - PA Championship Game (1-4)
A familiar foe, we took it to them the first 10 minutes, possession and great team play provided with a near goal and a couple of great opportunities. We then fell apart. Miss marking and we couldn't deal with the flank attack resulted in a two goal deficit after tthe first half. Then within 5 minutes in the second we lost focus and let them score two unanswered goal in a minute span. Most team would give up by now and just fall deeper. However, we showed some heart and provided the shut out from Ricky's lone goal. Not our day. Next time
Go BLUE! This tournament marked the debut of the new blue uniforms. Consensus is that they look great.
With a 0-1 loss to NSR #7 Lanco United, a 1-0 win over #14 Spirit United Strikers, and a hard fought 2-2 tie with cross-town rival FC Revolution, ACFC took a difficult path to winning their bracket. In the final, ACFC met Lanco United in a rematch - this time with the championship at stake. Although the boys worked hard for the entire game, the win was elusive, and ACFC had to settle for 2nd place in the tournament.
Their 0-0 tie against #4 Arsenal on May 16 gave United the point they needed to put the top spot out of the reach of challengers Liverpool and Chelsea.
Next up for ManU - a meaningless EPL game versus #17 Hull City on Sunday 5/24.
UEFA Championship versus Barcelona in Rome on May 27, where the Reds defend their title as the Champions of Europe. Last year, ManU defeated Chelsea in a nail-biter that went to penalty kicks.
