ACC Mavericks Competitive Soccer Program

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

The ACC Mavericks Program develops the soccer skills of its players through several avenues.  The Mavericks are the select soccer program of the Alameda-Contra Costa Youth Soccer League (ACCYSL).  The Mavericks are the League's program and as such, all players in our League are encouraged to tryout for the Mavericks' Division I teams for their age group.  This is the highest level of play offered locally to youth soccer players. Each year the League instructs the Mavericks to form select teams through open tryouts.

Division I Teams: For all ACCYSL players, U-10 through U-19, the Mavericks Program forms Division I teams that participate in playing leagues that schedule matches against other Class I teams in Alameda and Contra Costa counties, starting Labor Day and continuing on weekends through Thanksgiving every Fall. Team formation is done following open tryouts.

The U-10 and U-11 Mavericks teams play in matches scheduled by District IV of CYSA-North. The U-12 through U-19 Mavericks teams play in matches scheduled by the Golden State Soccer League, which combines teams from Districts III and IV of CYSA-North.

Player Development: Each Mavericks player develops his or her soccer skills in these Fall league matches and in the mandatory practices scheduled by the Mavericks coach for his or her team. The Mavericks coaches also make the final selection of jamborees (for the younger age groups), and tournaments in which the team will play matches before, during and after the Fall season. Tournaments in CYSA-North are scheduled for the period of mid-July through Labor Day (the Summer Season), during the last weekend of each month of the Fall Season, and from January through May, when the State Cup Tournament sponsored by CYSA-North concludes for the older age groups.

Teams also compete in NorCal Premier Soccer Spring League, sanctioned by US Club Soccer.  A statewide league for U10-U18 boys and girls, the spring league allows teams to test their mettle against opponents from across Northern California.

Developmental Program Series: Under the supervision of the Mavericks Coaching Coordinator and its Technical Director, the Mavericks conduct programs that improve the individual skills of its players and coaches. Goalkeeper Clinics are offered to Mavericks keepers throughout the year. Striker Clinics are offered each year, starting in the spring, after team formation. Each Mavericks player and coach is evaluated by the Technical Director to keep his or her development on track. Each Mavericks coach is expected to upgrade their licenses every 2-3 years. And each Mavericks player is expected to have the soccer skills to make his or her high-school soccer team by the end of their U-14 Fall season. The most dedicated and gifted Mavericks players continue playing soccer after high-school, often joining college teams at Division I, II and III NCAA universities.

The Mavericks are proud to represent the ACCYSL around District 4 and the state of California. Our players come from all of our communities -- socially, geographically, and ethnically. The League has given us the responsibility to offer select soccer to all its qualified players. All we ask of a player is the ability and commitment to play at this level. A player is never turned down from the Mavericks because their family cannot afford to pay the fees. Consequently, we offer a scholarship program to players, with a partial fee payment and extended payment terms. We feel the Mavericks offer a terrific opportunity for players to reach their highest soccer potential.

Maverick tryouts are held in March through April to form the teams which will play in the Fall of that year.  See Tryouts page for more information.
