AEK Capture More Points, Climb Table; Play 90 Minutes a Man Down Against Second-Placed Vybez and Draw 2-2
After a horrendous 0-0-4 start to their season, AEK Baltimore righted their ship to win five, draw once and only lose one more game for a current record of 5-1-5.
After a three game winning streak, AEK faced first-placed Portside on October 4th at Canton's Bonvegna field. AEK battled hard and held Portside to a 0-0 draw for 88minutes. In the 89th minute, however, Portside nicked a goal off a corner kick, and AEK lost a heart-breaker.
AEK Baltimore FC bounced right back. Three days later, AEK defeated third-placed White Marsh 1-0 under lights at Eastern Regional Park. AEK followed this up with a decisive 4-2 win over Nepal a week later at Bachman Field.
With a 5-0-5 record, AEK faced second-placed Vybez, a team that had only lost to Portside all season. A seasoned AEK side knew they could finally prove themselves one of the best teams in the Division despite their mid-table standing. Five minutes before the start, however, only eight players had appeared. Two more straggled in, but AEK were forced to play the entire match a man down. Vybez, meanwhile, had six subs. Despite this, AEK managed to grab a 2-0 lead in the second half. Unfortunately, however, an exhausted ten man side conceded twice in the last five minutes for a final scoreline of 2-2. Still, point proven.
AEK have three games left. A rematch against Vybez looms this coming Sunday, followed by a mid-week fixture against Independiente followed by a last game against Outcast FC, which that team has already forfeited.
