AEK Baltimore FC Finishes Dissaponting Spring 09 Season in 7th Place

AEK Baltimore concluded its 2009 spring season in Howard County's First Division with a dissapointing 7th place finsih.  The Spring 09 session was a season of rebuilding for AEK, however, as the team cycled through nearly half its squad.  Indeed, of the original squad of 15 players, only eight remained: Mike Murphy, Mario Inacio, Justin Young, Eric McPhee, CJ Ippolito, Ryan Reif, Michael Bride and Tamer Yacoub.  Midway through the season, several longtime players were lost, including Samora Waluchio, for a long time AEK's most dangerous player.

The team struggled while replacement were sought, often playing a man down or with no substitutes.  By the end of the season, the team held a series of try-outs and added several talented additions including Lanre Fasina at right back, Joel Goldberg at left foward, Jeff Lowe at center midfield, Ossy Enoch at striker and Fortune Usonwu at forward.  With new players starting to gel with the old, the team finished the season with a decisive 3-0 blowout of Milan FC.

Despite the 7th place finish, AEK still recorded an impressive defensive performance ranking 5th in goals conceded and third in clean sheets (with 3).   The team will continue to rebuild in the off-season.
