The Department of Parks and Recreation is proud to announce that the City of Allentown is in the finals of the $100,000 PetSafe Bark For Your Park contest! Out of more than 500 cities across the country, Allentown is among 15 to earn the distinction based on the fantastic input shown by the community during the first and second stages of the contest. In order to advance to become one of the 15 finalist cities, the Department of Parks and Recreation put together a 2-minute video.
Thanks to the support of more than 40 residents from across the city who were present at the video filming, the department was able to showcase all of the required criteria for the contest: community support for a dog park, the impact that a dog park would have, and the master plan and location for a dog park.
Allentown-based video production company PostSputnik produced the video. Langan Engineering designed the master plan for the proposed dog park, which is to be located in Trout Creek Park East.
“We are so proud and thankful for the support from the Allentown community,” said Department of Parks & Recreation Director Greg A. Weitzel. “The public’s effort during the first and second portion of the competition was fabulous, and we need the public’s help again during the final phase. With their assistance, I believe Allentown has a great chance to win.”
Weitzel urges the public to vote. The city’s video is posted on www.barkforyourpark.com. Voting takes place from today, July 13 – August 3, 2011. The city with the most votes claims the entire $100,000 prize. Voters can cast a ballot once every 24 hours, so please vote early and vote often!
