DARREL NEWMAN - HEAD COACH 97 GRIFFINS
BIO:
Played AAA Hockey in Buffalo, NY where the various teams he played for won state and national championships.
Played on the Buffalo Junior Sabres which is a major Junior A team.
Attended Erie College where the team went to the Nationals He was an all American player that year and won several awards at the regional and national tournament.
He then went to Germany where he played pro before coming back to Michigan where he played for the Muskegon Fury in the IHL and also the Raleigh team in the ECHL.
He coached with Sean Zimmerman for the West Michigan Warriors AAA Midget team. Justin Abdelkader and Andrew Rowe were on the that team and played for him. He assisted on several youth teams in NY, ran his own skills camps and coached for the Buffalo Regals AAA and the Cheektowaga Warriors AAA.
Darrel Helped Lou Rabaut when he coached for GRAHA while he played with the Muskegon Fury IHL team.
Darrel will be affiliated with the Junior A Muskegon Lumberjacks USHL hockey team for the 2010-2011 season.
OBJECTIVES:
Focus will be skill development with teaching team play concepts and systems. At the Bantam level the skater can improve their individual skills while emphasizing team play, puck control and defensive systems. At the elite level these skaters can learn what it take s to play at the next level. The goal will be to develop and promote each and every one of the players selected for this team. Coach Newman has lots of contacts both at the college and the pro level and is willing to promote the players that work hard, are dedicated and skilled athletes. Core values for players will be stressed also so the players can become successful not only in hockey but in life.
COSTS:
The fee per player will depend upon the number of players selected for this team. A complete budget will be outlined once the team is selected. There will be multiple fundraising opportunities.
