Regionals Begin!

Regionals have arrived and the girls are prepped and ready to go.  Lancaster is windy, but the fields are in great shape.  Saturday, afternoon, after everyone was able to get settled in the hotel, the girls had a mid-afternoon training session in the high winds.  Sunday broughtteam bowling, pictures and a final run through meeting at the Lancastewr Soccer Complex.  The girls seem relaxed, ready and excited to start the tournament.

Colorado is their first test on Monday.  Kickoff is at 4:00p.  Tuesday will pit the girls against their old rivals from Hawaii, Leahi.  And, their final bracket game is against MVLA on Wednesday with an early 8:00a kickoff.

Without question, we are facing the most difficult bracket but the girls are definately up to the challenge.  Keep posted to this site for up to date scores and not so colorful post-match commentary.  Good luck girls...

Cerritos Cup Memorial Challenge

The girls are back training in full force as they prepare for their upcoming trip to California for the Cerritos Memorial Cup Challenge.  Last week, they had a much deserved week off but are excited to get back into form.  Their last two trips out to California for the Blues and Surf Cups did not yield the results they were looking for.

That said, they have a great sense of confidence in themselves as they look ahead especially to the Far West Regionals.  The brackets are posted.  To view them please click on the following link: http://www.gotsport.com/events/schedule.aspx?EventID=5259&Sex=Girls&Age=13 Also, you can follow the action as the girls results will be posted on this site.  Good luck in California!

2009 Arizona State Cup Champions

The girls had to wait an extra day to face TSA...but it was worth it.  The team was, as always, well prepared to move on to the next level.  Nothing was going to keep them from their goal, the 2009 Far West Regionals in Lancaster, CA.

This was a rematch of last years State Cup Final and very quickly the girls came out and scored within the first ten minutes and did not look back.  TSA snuck a goal in in the last minute to prevent the shut out.  The final score was 5-1.  Congratulations to TSA for making it to the finals for the second year in a row. But, we're happy to keep them in the second slot for another season.

The girls are taking a well deserved week off before they begin their training for the Cerritos Memorial Day Challenge that begins on May 22 through May 25th.  This tournament will be a great preparation for their Regional matches.

Congratulations also to the 97 Boys White and the 97 Girls White Teams for clinching the state championships as well.  Good luck to the rest of the Sereno teams still in the hunt.

Great Weekend of Soccer

This past weekend brought our own version of Friday Night Lights to the valley.  After a convincing win last weekend versus the Inferno, the girls faced down a formidible Banat squad.  The team and all their supporters came ready to play and fought very hard.  However, the girls had something to say with Gabby who started the scoring about ten minutes into the match with a brilliant run into the box and a well placed shot beating the keeper low and right.  Though Banat was able to find the back of the net once in the second half, at the final whistle, the score stood at 5-1 sending Banat to the lower bracket.

Sunday brought TSA Red to town for a rematch of last years State Cup final.  they were obviously very amped to play and fought tooth and nail for the full seventy minutes.  The score was 3-0 but in no way was an indication of the flow.  The girls dominated from the first whistle with Gabby once again starting the scoring with a strong run into the box and, after being taken down, resulted in a well placed PK that beat the keeper low and right.  Meghan scored the goal of the weekend by taking a ball out of the air and placing a strong volley into the upper right from fifteen yards out.  This loss put TSA into the final lower bracket match vs Banat.

The finals are slated for next Sunday.  Good luck to both TSA and Banat.  We'll see one of you next Sunday.

Friday Night Lights...Arizona Style!

The State Cup for the girls is now moving into the semi-final stage.  This past weekend, the girls faced an Inferno team that came to play hard under very difficult circumstances.  The final score is not important.  What is, is the fact that both teams fought hard and our Sereno girls came out on top.  Good luck to the Inferno in the lower bracket.

Tomorrow night, the girls face a very strong Banat side.  Banat played the girls well during their regular season game, and we expect nothing less from them for the full seventy minutes tomorrow.  Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00p at Reach 11 Field #4.  See you on the sidelines.

Let the Cup Begin!

Yes, it's that time of year again...State Cup in here!  And, up until last night, we did not know who we would be playing in our first match.  Gilbert and Desert Elite first had to battle it out in a very hard faught match at REach 11 last night.  The game was a draw, 0-0, at the end of regulation.  Both sides were tired, but they pushed on through both overtimes without either side finding the back of the net.  The game went to PKs and in the end Desert Elite came out on top.

The girls look forward to their match today versus DE.  Kickoff is at 2:00p today at Reach 11.  We look forward to seeing you on the sidelines.

Monday, March 16
1st Time Ostrich Festival Champions

Unfortunately, the girls were unable to compete in the Las Vegas College Showcase.  In its place, the team played in the 2009 San Tan Ostrich Festival.  It was a four game tournament that began on Friday night against Gilbert (9-0), Saturday afternoon against the Ahwatukee 95 squad (8-0) and on Sunday morning versus a difficult Tuscon team (3-0).  The weekend ended on Sunday afternoon in the finals versus a tough Ahwatukee 96 team.  Our challengers battled throughout but were just not able to keep up with the girls.  The final score was 8-0 inking another tournament championship for the 96 Golden Eagle Girls.  Congratulations! Next on the docket is the Cerritos Memorial Challenge toward the end of May.

Tuesday, March 3
Ostrich Festival Here We Come!

The girls will be competing in this years San Tan Ostrich Festival.  The dates are lucky Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15.  They will be playing in the 95 bracket along with Ahwatukee who is also playing up in preparation for State cup.  The team will be playing all its games down in Mesa at the Red Mountain Fields.  Their first match is Friday evening versus Gilbert.  Look forward to seeing everyone there.

2009 PDT Champions

What an outstanding weekend of soccer!  The girls mounted an amazing run ending on Monday with their semi-final and final matches.  The first game of the day pitted them against FC United from Illinois.  United had a very difficult game the prior day vs Neusport taking them to a 0-0 tie.  We came out and scored early draining United of any energy they had left in their reserves.  The game ended in a 4-0 victory and a ticket to the finals vs Neusport who won in PKs vs the Sting of TX.

The game brought our rivalry back to the surface.  In our last meeting, Neusport bested us 1-0 in a very tight game here in Scottsdale so the girls were looking forward to a chance to avenge that loss.  Within the first ten minutes, Jorian took the ball at pace down the right side and crossed it to Alexa who was waiting to bury it at the far post...beautiful goal!

The first half ended with a 1-0 lead.  Both teams were exhausted from the the previous five games but at the same time, battling for each posession.  It took about thirty minutes into the second half to find the back of the net for the second and final time.  On a breakaway, Jorian beat the keeper with a bullet from about twelve yards out.

The girls were drained at the end of the match but very happy to once again be on top of Neusport.

Successful Valentines Day at the PDT

The girls had a great showing on their first day of the 2009 Del Sol Presidents Day Tournament.  Their first test was against a strong Bethesda team.  It was a good test in the first half, but we were able to slide two goals past their keeper before the whistle blew for the half.  The girls found the net one more time in the second half finishing the match with a 3-0 win.

Their afternoon match pitted them against the Rio Vista Aguilas from New Mexico.  Though the Aguilas battled well, Olivia buried two quick goals off of great assists by Jorian.  The first half ended with a 2-0 lead.  Kelly an Jorian each found the back of the net one time in the second half ending the game with a 4-0 win.

Our next game is tomorrow morning at Red Mountain versus Emerald City from Washington.  Kickoff is at 10:05a.  We are looking forward to another great day of soccer.

96 Girls White Looking to Repeat as PDT Champions

The brackets are out http://www.gotsport.com/events/schedule.aspx?EventID=4077&Sex=Girls&Age=13 and the stage is set for another exciting Presidents Day Tournament.  In last years finals, the girls played a tremendous game vs a very tough Leahi squad from Hawaii.  After a hard fought battle, the team came away with a 2-1 victory.  Though Leahi will not be returning this year, a formidible list of teams fill out each bracket making a difficult road through to the final.

This year our bracket consists of the following teams: Bethesda SC Galaxy (MD), Emerald City FC 95 Green (WA), Rio Vista Aguilas (NM) and of course the Sereno 96 Golden Eagles (AZ). Our first game is on the 14th with a 10:05a kickoff at Red Mountain.  Our second game of the day is at 4:25p vs the Rio Vista Aguilas also at Red Mountain.  And, our final bracket game is on the 15th vs Emerald City again at 10:05a at Red Mountain.

The game results will be posted on this site on the day of the game.  We're looking forward to some great soccer and and the finals held at Reach 11.

Have a great week everyone and we will see you on the sidelines!

Champions Again!

A huge congratulations to the girls on a very hard fought and well earned champoinship this past weekend at the Sereno Classic.  They ended the the tournament on Monday with two grueling games first against the Nike Rush who scored first.  The girls revealed their character by leveling the game toward the end of the second half and finally Lindsey Martin knocking home the game winner in the final moments of the second overtime.

The Championship game pitted the team against a strong and very physical FC Dallas squad.  Olivia scored the winning goal in the final minutes of the first half.  The girls were able to hold Dallas off in the second half for the championship.  Great games all around.

Next in line will the the Del Sol Presidents Day tournament in mid February.

Back in the Game

Welcome back everyone!  We hope everyone is excited about the home stretch leading into State Cup.  The girls started the second half of the season convincingly with a very solid 2-1 win in a friendly versus the 97 Blackhawk Boys.  Gabby scored first on a very well placed ball into the corner of the net.  Hannah then scored the winner high over the keeper into the upper left netting during the waning moments of the match...well done!

The girls have two games this weekend.  On Saturday, TSA comes to town for an 11:00a kickoff at Rose Mofford #3.  Then, on Sunday at 9:00a, the girls have their second friendly of the season vs SC Del Sol's 95 Girls.  We are all looking forward to a great weekend of soccer.  Hope to see you on the sidelines.

Very Strong Showing at Surf Thanksgiving Cup

After last years success, the girls felt very confident about bringing home the Surf Cup this year.  Though placed in a very difficult bracket, the girls played extremely well.

Our first match pitted us against THUSC Sodium from Utah.  Though the playing conditions were less than desireable, the girls came out with the focus and intensity to win.  Jorian found the back of the net first on a brilliant breakaway slotting it low and right.  Gabby added a second with a shot low and right.  Jorian scored the final goal of the match that ended in a 3-0 victory.  The day was not yet over as we were scheduled to play the final game of the day at 7:30 that evening.

By the time we arrived at the field for our evening game vs South Bay, the fog had also arrived.  It was an interesting night as the field was damp and the balls were skipping.  Once both teams had a handle on the conditions, the game intensified.  Both sides played well however were unable to find the net.  The match ended in a 0-0 tie forcing us into a must win situation the next day versus the Blues.

What a game!  The girls dominated the majority of the first and most of the second half with many opportunities on net.  Unfortunately, the nature of this game dictates that the best team on the day does not always emerge victorious...a hard lesson.  The Blues took advantage of the  the three real opportunities they had on net and scored on two including a brilliantly executed set play from the corner.  The game ended in a 2-0 loss sending us home early.  The girls represented Arizona well and certainly left their mark.  We look forward to next year.

Good Luck to the girls in California as they try to bring home the SURF CUP!

96 Girls Win Patriots Cup Impressively

A great weekend of soccer all around for the girls.  The weekends matches provided the girls with some great competition.  Early on Saturday morning, the girls were pitted against a strong 95 Blackhawks squad.  It took a while for both teams to shake the chilly morning air.  But, as the temperatures warmed up both on the field and in the air, the game began to take shape.  We found the back of the net three time before the final whistle sounded.

Our second game that afternoon was against the host team, MSC.  They battled well on the warm afternoon, but the girls proved again to be stronger around the ball and came away with a 2-0 victory.

8:00a, Sunday and the girls kickoff against the Desert Elite 95 squad.  Early on, Desert Elite moved the ball very well through the midfield, but had difficulty connecting through the front line.  Our first goal was scored by Olivia who found the back of the net off a brilliant cross from Nikki.  Desert Elite then scored an own goal and that's how the match ended, 2-0 putting us into the championship game versus PSA who won an impressive match earlier in the day against an always tough Ladybugs squad.  .

The girls came out strong with a shot on net in the first minute of the match...they never looked back.  PSA clearly had no answers and were on their heels most of the game.  Jorian started the scoring with a brilliant shot from eighteen that found the left netting.  Kellie added a second goal on a PK after Gabby was sent to the ground by the PSA keeper on a ball in the box.  The icing was added as a bookend goal with Jorian  burying a shot again in the upper left 90 to put the game away.

Congratulations again to the girls for an outstanding weekend of soccer and earning the Patriots Cup Championship!
