The grass has grown in, the baselines have been marked, and the 2007 Neat Heat 10 and Under softball team is prepared for its upcoming season. We kicked off on March 17th and the girls were a little shaky getting use to one another and putting to play what they have learned in practice. With the temperature being so cold, all in all our first tournament was a good eye opener for the girls to realize the competition coming into the spring season. The following tournament we headed to the Big Peach in Clanton. The temperature wasn't much warmer but our girls were ready to show them that they came to play ball. All the girls came together as a team and dominated in pool play and was seeded # 1. With two more games left in the day the girls came out with 2-2 taking second place under the Big Peach. We then headed back into Birmingham the following weekend to George Ward Park. Going in a little to confident, the girls just couldn't get themselves in the right mind set it was error after error and a lot of disappointment. We took 0-3 and packed our bags and headed home. We then headed into Cullman the girls were ready to play we had one game beat and they cancelled the tournament due to weather. So after that we headed home a took a much needed weekend off. We came back April 28th to the Git-R-Done Tourney in Gadsden, the girls sweeping the tournament with only One run scored on them all day. Going into the championship game the girls were very confident in themselves. They were doing what they knew how to do and that was play ball. Neat Heat is up 4-0 and it's the bottom of the sixth inning we have our first error and a run is scored shooting down some of there confidence. The girls then continued to have error after error the confidence was gone the girls handed over the championship to the Sand Mountain Sidewinders in an upsetting 5-8 loss taking second place at the Gadsden Git-r-Done. Overall the girls have done really well this season, We have a lot of young talented players. I think we are strong defensively and we have a lot of depth as far as the plate goes. The season has just begun, the girls have a lot on their plates for being so young and they are doing a fantastic job. Keep up the good work girls we are all proud of you!!!!
WE WOULD LIKE TO DEDICATE THIS SEASON TO THE "BEST SOFTBALL MOM EVER!! SHE IS THE LOVELY SANDY GOLDEN AND WE ARE SO BLESSED THAT YOU ARE IN OUR LIVES. WE HOLD YOU IN OUR HEARTS AND IN OUR PRAYERS!!!!!
Softball Player's Prayer Lord Give me the strength to hit the ball And if I do,don't let me fall. Â Help me to pick the pitch that's right, Then let me knock it out of sight. Then let me run with deer-like grace Don't let me miss but tag first base Then on to second, stay with me Lord, Cause this one out, we can't afford. Then let me zoom like a flying bird Right down the line and on to third. Then let me slide with feet out-thrust Across home plate in the swishing dust. BUT FIRST OF ALL, DEAR LORD, I PRAY JUST TELL THE COACH TO LET ME PLAY!
