Rapid Fire places 5th at Colorado Fireworks Tournament!!!
Rapid Fire traveled to Broomfield, Colorado June 29 - July 4th to compete in the Colorado Fireworks Tournament. The tournament has become one of the best invitational tournaments in the country, and this year attracted 60 of the best 14U teams in the U.S., representing 18 different states. Rapid Fire, one of 15 teams from Texas, placed 5th overall, tying the Katy Express for the best finish of all Texas teams. The competition was tough, with most games being decided by one or two runs. Rapid Fire battled hard through bracket play, winning their first four games. Three of those games were won by one run, including the dramatic last-inning win over the Shamrocks. After a rough game against the Mini Bulls Tuesday night, Rapid Fire pulled together Wednesday morning in a tough loss against the Oklahoma Ice. Although Rapid Fire had a 2-0 lead with time expired, the Ice fought hard with 2 outs and a full count, coming up with a game winning blast to the outfield that scored 3 runs. A great win for Ice, as they went on to win the next 2 games and finish 2nd in the tournament. Although disappointed with the loss, it was a great week for Rapid Fire and a huge accomplishment to earn the 5th place finish. The entire team pulled together all week, contributing at different times. All of the girls gave 110%, playing through pain and injuries, and never giving up until the last out. Our defense was solid for most of the week, led by our pitchers: Noelle, Devon, Brittany, KelVon, and Hannah. After a sluggish start offensively in pool play, Rapid Fire came alive in the first bracket game, and stayed hot throughout the tournament. Congratulations to Brittany for her 2-run homer against the Mini Bulls.
As usual, Rapid Fire had as much fun off the field as on. The tournament was another opportunity for the team to bond, as well as the siblings and parents. Whether just hanging out or touring different areas of Colorado, Rapid Fire made many more memories that remind us how special our team is. Some of the activities included going to the movies, go-carting, cookouts, driving to Estes Park, whitewater rafting, and the siblings' trip to the water park.
