Bays End 1st Season on High Note : Capture Columbia Invitational Title; 5/28
The 92Bays United, closing out its first season, ran the table at the Columbia Invitational Tournament to finish off a building year on a very positive note.
Baltimore kicked off on a border line pitch at Schooley Mill Park; showed great resilience, dealt with the poor surface, and utilized a solid squad of players who shared the team's positive attitude to win the Championship.
Playing in the second tier (a just seeding given the new team's status), the Bays ignored some of the frustration from the regular spring season and clearly showed themselves as the class of the division, but not without some great challenges.
Baltimore fought through poor field conditions, extremely physical play at times, and a limited bench in very hot temps but never caved in. The result was a well deserved Tournamant Championship over a hard fighting New York side that also showed great desire and determination, scoring on a late free kick to put the match at 2-1 and applying pressure for the last 10 minutes of a great final for the fans to watch.
In the end, a very just result for a team that has had its share of growing pains, which is to be expected, but stayed the course none the less and can now look forward to better results in the future as adjustments and additions in the off season hope to carry the momentum further.
Certainly, it was a season of learning for the most part, but one that provided nothing but optimism at the same time, as evidenced by this great end of the spring.
Our thanks to all those who supported the side from the start, as well as to all the quality sides the Bays competed with this spring to make the experience a positive one for the players. After all, that's what we're here for.

Depleted Bays squad earn hard fought point in Colonial finale
92Bays United limped to York for it's final game of the spring vs. Metro Jags on Saturday, and earned a point where other squads may not have shown up.
With more players injured on the bench than available to play, Baltimore endured a physical challenge from Metro (also with a limited bench)and again showed signs of a team just short of time together, but otherwise on the right track. The end result was fair, as both teams worked well at times and created chances, but neither could find the final touch when it mattered. For the Bays, it was a point that should provide some confidence, having had few results this year dispite only being out played once in total.
The Columbia Memorial Day tourney awaits as the season finishes, with training and try outs for next year's squad in the interim. As for the league season, it was an eye opener for most, but to be fair the team was unprepared due to weather related issues in March. Few could argue that with less injuries and more games under their belt, the results would likely have been better. But this is youth soccer at the regional level, and excuses are just that. Hopefully the team and all players who survived the season will only learn from the experience, and use it to become better soccer players in the future; which after all is why they are here to begin with.
