Somebody's Son
He skates up the ice, his heart beating fast,
He goes to the net, for the game's final pass.
Mom and Dad cannot help him, or steady his aim,
And a goal at this moment would settle the game.
He picks up the pass, he shoots, but he's wide,
There are groans from adults, who should be on his side.
Some careless remarks and the damage is done,
Tears fill his eyes, the game's no longer fun.
So keep this in mind when someone forgets,
That he's just a young boy, not all grown up as yet.
He's somebody's son, standing there all alone,
Respect him, encourage him, he just might be your own.

Hockey's a funny game. You have to prove yourself every shift, every game. It's not up to anybody else. You have to take pride in yourself. ~ Paul Coffey
