ARSENAL
The Arsenal, a U15 Girls team which formed under the RFC training program in August 2006, is a aggregation of WAGS Division 1 and 2 players from teams competing in Northern Virginia. In November 2006, Arsenal moved to Herndon Youth Soccer (HYS) as part of an effort for the club to bring elite teams under their umbrella and further develop the premier soccer club concept.
The Arsenal is trained under the RFC program by Coaches Mike Calebretta and Steve Totten.
Coach Calabretta is entering his second season as an assistant coach for the women's soccer program at Georgetown University, and has been involved at the club level since 2000. Working in both with RFC and the Bethesda Soccer Club, Calabretta established himself early on as one of the area's prominent young coaches. In his first two years he collected a record of 81-17-10 highlighted by European Championship in the world's third largest youth tournament. Calabretta has also been involved with the Maryland Olympic Development program, serving as an assistant coach on the boys side from 1999-2000. In 2001, he took over as the Director of Player Development for the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, MD, a position he held for two and a half years while also working as the Director of Sales and Sponsorships for the Maryland Soccer Foundation. Calabretta holds licenses from both the United States Soccer Federation and National Soccer Coaches Association of America
Coach Totten is currently in his second season as an assistant coach at American University. Totten has been a coach at RFC since 2002. He was also the head coach of Yorktown High School in Arlington, Va., where he spent three seasons. During his time at Yorktown, Totten led the team to two National District Championships and in 2005, led the team to its best-ever finish with an appearance in the Northern Region Semifinals. Steve has also coached at the National Cathedral School, the D.C. United Youth Program and with the Bethesda Phoenix. As a player, Totten was a three year team captain at the University of Virginia, where he was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player after the 1999 and 2000 seasons. In each of his four seasons, the Wahoo squad was ranked in the top-10 in the nation. Totten culminated his collegiate career by being drafted in the third round of the MLS draft by the Chicago Fire.
