MORE:
5-Star Softball is part of the Greater South King County Softball Association. We play 4 other recreational softball leagues within our area. The other leagues are Maple Valley Fast Pitch, Mercer Island Boys and Girls Club, Federal Way Fast Pitch and Cascade Vista Athletic Association. Together we support over 500 softball players.
All 5-Star practices are held locally. The majority of games are also local as well, but travel to Mercer Island, Maple Valley and Federal Way are required for ages groups U-8, U-10, U-12 and U-14. All T-Ball games are held locally. Games are usually on a Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs scheudle, with an occational Saturday game thrown in.
Here's a rundown what each age level is about:
T-Ball: This is where it all starts. For boys and girls ages 5 and 6, the kids learn the fundamentals of playing ball. Teams are built around friendships and schoolmates, and players are taught which way to run the bases, how to hit a ball, catching and throwing. Emphasis is placed on having fun, sportsmanship and baseball/softball fundamentals. Games and practices are kept short and fun, and scores are not kept. T-Ball boys and girls play approximately 15 games during the recreational season.
U-8 (Coach Pitch): For ages 7 and 8, this is where boys usually move into Pinto baseball and girls move into U-8 Coach Pitch Softball. Coaches continue to build on the fundamentals of playing softball, now not having to worry about players running the wrong way after hitting a ball. Games still are not focused on winning, but rather on having fun, sportsmanship and playing the game correctly. During games, the coaches pitch the ball to their own batters. U-8 girls play approximately 14 games during the recreational season followed by a post season tournament.
U-10 (Modified Fast Pitch): For ages 9-10. Girls begin learning about the real game of girls' fast pitch softball. Girls learn to pitch the ball underhand to each other. If a pitcher cannot strike out the batter or the batter cannot hit the ball after 3 balls, the batters coach comes in and completes the count. There are no walks at this level. Scores are kept at this level and things start becoming competitive. U-10 girls play approximately 14 games during the recreational season followed by a post season tournament.
U-12/U-14(Fast Pitch): For ages 11 through 14, girls are now playing the full game of Girls' Fast Pitch Softball. Games are very competitive as the girls progress each age level. All aspects of fast pitch are taught and rules followed. 5-Star Girls' Fast Pitch generally follows the ASA (Amateur Softball Association) rules and regulations during our regular recreational season. Fast Pitch girls play approximately 14 games during the recreational season followed by a post season tournament. Fast pitch teams also have the option to participate in ASA sanctioned tournaments.
For levels U-8 through U14, 5-Star Girls' Softball interlocks with other leagues within a 20 mile radius of Renton.
