Velocity Kicks Off TOPSoccer Program!!!
TOPSoccer Logo

The Velocity kicked off the TOPSoccer program tonight, and it was an incredible success.  What a special team and a special group of parents!

Here is what Velocity TOPSoccer coordinator, Jamie Walter, had to say after tonight's session.

"I just want to thank everyone who came out to help tonight!! It was a huge success, and I really appreciated everybody's help and enthusiasm.

I thought all the girls did an awesome job with the kids. We had a few crying at the end because they didn't want it to be over. How cool is that!! Well not that they were crying, but the fact that the didn't want it to end because they were having so much fun.

All you girls did an exceptional job with the player you were partnered up with. Some had more challenging kids then others, but you all put 100% into it. It was fun to watch the kids having fun and running you around and in some cases around and around and around..... I have already received a phone call and an e-mail tonight telling me how much fun their child had and they can hardly wait till next Monday. So good job to you all and I hope your excited for next week.

Thank you KC for volunteering to help as well, I really appreciated you stepping in and leading these kids. You are such a nice and caring guy, we are lucky to have you around!!!!

I especially want to thank Darla and Joy for all their time and hard work. It has been so much fun working with you 2 and getting this all put together. It was worth every minute of our hard work just to see those kids smiling and having a good time.

Time and effort well spent!!!!  Thanks again to everyone!!!!!
Jamie"

Velocity Win Mud Bowl, 2-0
Muddy Field
Spokane Soccer Field #4

The Velocity traveled to Spokane's South Hill for a match in the mud.  Slippery, slimy, sloppy mud.  The Velocity seemed more at home than the Spokane Shadow, and came away with a 2-0 win.  Kristyn Bohlander got the Velocity out of the muck first with a goal from the six on a cross from Heather or Paige or someone else.  Later in the first half Tabitha Jones scored somehow, on a goal where too many players were in the way to see from the bench, and fans were blocked by a tent.  (Thanks, Haille and Joy!)

The win moves the Velocity into 2nd place in the PDL Division 3 race at 6-2-1.  Next week the Velocity play at home against the Highline Eagles, hoping to clinch 2nd, and set the tone for State Cup play, which kicks off on April 4.

Defenders Score Twice in Velocity Win Over Yakima

Defenders Kendall Riddelle and Cari Exarhos each scored on set plays in the first half to lead the Velocity to a 2-1 win over the Yakima Sun City Strikers.  Kendall scored directly from a corner kick, alovely out-swinger that the gale force winds swung back in.  Cari's goal came on a free kick from about 30 yards out, a low liner that scooted underneath the goalie in the lower, right corner.   The win keeps the Velocity in 3rd place in the PDL Division 3 league, at 5-2-1.

Stats:
Goals
1st Half - Kendall Riddelle, assist wind
1st Half - Cari Exarhos, unassisted

Inside Scoop:  No other statistical details are available due to a camera malfunction detected late by the Velocity videographer/statistician.  Actually, the wind was blowing so strong that it must have depressed the Pause button about 30 seconds into the first half.

The 3Rivers Velocity beat the Highline Eagles 2-1 in Seattle on Sunday, to move to 4-0-1 in PDL league play.  Haille Heid scored 22 minutes into game on the rebound of a shot by Paige Pontarolo.  Late in the 2nd half, with the score 1-1, Heid lofted a corner kick that Heather Johnson headed past the goalie.

More details to come after review of the game video...

Velocity 1, Spokane Shadow 0

The 3Rivers Velocity improved to 3-0-1 in league play with a physical 1-0 victory over the Spokane Shadow in Pasco.  The only goal of the game came in the 9th minute as Paige Pontarolo tapped in an eight yard shot after a lovely 40 yard cross by Heather Baddley.  Macy Brannan anchored the defense that allowed only six shots in the 2nd half, all weak shots from outside 25 yards.

Ingrid Stein recorded the shutout with 3 saves, facing 12 Shadow shots.  The Velocity turned it up a bit in the 2nd half, and although they did not score, they outshot Spokane 15-6, and 20-12 in the game.

3Rivers Velocity 4, Yakima Sun City Strikers 1
Heather Blue Face
Johnson

It reminded me of one of my favorite movies, Kicking and Screaming, starring Will Ferrell.  But instead of “Give it to the Italians!” Velocity coaches were yelling “Give it to Heather! Give it to Heather!”  And they did.

Heather Johnson had a hand in all four goals as the 3Rivers Velocity beat the Yakima Sun City Strikers 4-1 at Perry Soccer Fields, right across the street from the Ding Ho Restaurant.

Heather scored the first goal after taking a long pass from defender Macy Brannan (starting to see a pattern here) and beating the goalie one-on-one.  Five minutes before half, Tabitha Jones scored by cleaning up the rebound of a Johnson shot.  2-nil Velocity at the half.  Midway through the 2nd half with the score 2-1, Johnson created an opportunity on the end line.  After a couple of fakes against two Striker defenders, she lofted a cross to the far post that Yesenia Alvarado headed in from two feet out.  And finally, with a minute left, Paige Pontarolo tapped in the rebound of the second of two Johnson shots from close range.

The Velocity are now 2-0-1 in PDL Division 3 play.  The Spokane Shadow travel to Pasco next Sunday for a 10:00am match.

Johnson Scores Late in Velocity 1-0 win over Crossfire

Heather Johnson took a long ball played over the top by Macy Brannan, beat a lone defender the final 40 yards, and fired a low shot from 10 yards out, across and under a diving goalie, all with just seconds left in the game.  After 38 shots by both teams in the game,  Heather’s last shot gave the Velocity a 1-0 win over the Crossfire, who not only lost the game, but also missed the Super Bowl.

The Velocity, outplayed much of the game, held on when it counted and relied on 6 saves from Ingrid Stein.  Like Heather, Ingrid also saved her best for last, with 2 nice saves late in the game.  With about 8 minutes to play a Crossfire forward found herself alone with the ball, in front of the net.  Ten yards out, she fired high on goal, and Ingrid made the big save.  A minute and half later, another Crossfire forward took a deflection down the right side, about 8 yards out, and shot low and hard.  Ingrid got a hand on it and kept the Velocity alive.

The Velocity move to 1-0-1 in PDL play and travel to Yakima next weekend.  PDL Standings

Velocity, Reign Battle to 2-2 Draw

Jade Walter proved once again why she is "The Garbage Girl", taking garbage tossed her way by Paige Pontarolo and Kristyn Bohlander, and converting for two goals, as the Velocity and the Purple Reign battled to a 2-2 tie.  As the first half neared completion, Paige took a long pass over the top from Heather Johnson deep into the right corner, and with an incredible touch arched a high shot on goal.  Nearly a goal, the Reign goalie made the save, but the rebound trickled out to a perfectly positioned Jade, who swept up the garbage and kneed it into the goal.  1-0 Velocity at the half.

The Reign made it 1-1 early in the 2nd half on an own goal, but the Velocity responded just two minutes later.  This time Kristyn Bohlander lofted a free kick 40 yards into a crowd in front of the Reign net.  Jade got a foot on it, Velocity 2-1.  It seemed to be the Velocity's day as a Reign central defender (#2) earned 2 yellows in 2 minutes.  The Velocity were up a man with 21 minutes to play.  But just 4 minutes later the Reign scored on a penalty kick for a 2-2 tie.  Although the Velocity escalated play with 4 shots in the last 8 minutes, they could not find the back of the net.  2-2 final.

Next Sunday the Velocity host the Crossfire B team at 2:00pm.
