Rangers top Sundevils 10-3
Once again experience prevailed over youth as the upstart Sun Devils fell for the third straight league game to the defending NBC World Series and State Champs 10-3. As has been the story, the SD's were competitive early and had one bad inning, giving up 5 unearned in the 3rd to allow the Rangers to stretch to commanding 7-1 lead. The SD's pitching battled throughout the game led by Maurice Bradford and Ethan Reinert and Jax Hurt. As young teams do, they were undone by untimely walks, wild pitches and errors in the field. The Sundevils look to get on track Thursday against the 10U Rays at 5:30.

Sundevils take the Manattan Top Gun Championship
The Sundevils notched their 2nd tourney championship of the young campaign by topping the Kansas Crush in a well played and pitched final game, 5-3. The Devils cruised thru pool play going 2-0 w/ a 14-4 victory over the Manhattan Titans and 10-7 come from behind victory over the Kansas Crush. In bracket play they won 3 straight to claim the c'ship.
Throughout the tournament the Devils played spectacular defense and had strong catching efforts from Jackson Nicklaus, DaShawn Bradford and Oscar Gallardo that helped in neutralizing the running games in all 5 victories. They also received several standout pitching performances from Ethan Reinert in a 10-7 Crush victory, DaShawn Bradford in the semi's and Sterling Pierce going 5 strong innings in the C'ship game.
Lastly they had some spectacular defensive plays by Jaxson Guillroy, Jax Hurt in the outfield. They also had solid defense from utility players Cooper Carpenter and Mo Bradford who each played 4 positions in the tourney. Ben Purvis and Wyatt McCormick were rock solid at first and the offense was paced by clutch hits from an emerging Chance Holmgren.
The Sundevils next tourney will be at the KC Super NIT on Memorial Day weekend.

Sun Devils split doubleheader
In game one of the double header the Sun Devils improved their league record to 2-4 by sweeping the season series from the Royals in a 16-0 blowout. Several Devils players had mulit hit and runs scored. The pitching was again stellar led by Ethan Reinert. Cooper Carpenter and Chance Holmgren each pitched a scoreless inning to complete the shutout.
In the night cap the Devils ran into a buzz saw in the 10U Astros. Coming off of a victory in the Top Gun Manhattan 10U bracket, the Astros came out strong on the mound and pounded out several hits in route to a 10-3 victory. The Devils were victimized by untimely errors and walks and ultimately the Astros showed to be too much for the Devils to handle.

Devils top Tigers in extra innings
The Sun Devils broke into the win column against their first 10U team in a thrilling 5-4 win in 8 innings. The game was a classic in every sense. The Devils were efficient on the mound w/ Jax Hurt escaping a bases loaded jam in the 4th and Jackson Nicklaus getting out of 3 straight jams in the 5th, 6th and 7th. The Devils showed tremendous poise and executed many tough plays as the Tigers put a lot of pressure on the defense with many executed bunts. Oscar Gallardo led off the 8th inning w/ a blast off the right field wall and then stole 2nd. Jax Hurt executed a perfect hit and run to move Gallardo to 3rd w/ 1 out. Wyatt McCormick delivered the game winning hit w/ one out to cap off the victory.

Grays outlast the Sundevils 6-3 - Devils fall to Hawks in extra inning classic
The 10U Grays jumped out early on some timely hits and misplays in the field. The Sundevils bowed their necks and refused to let the Grays pull away. They battled back as they've done all year to to make things interesting but ultimately they fell in a hard fought 6-3 loss.
On Monday, the Devils were coming off an needed weekend off and the 10U Hawks were fresh off a stinging defeat in the Ark City Top Gun Tournament to the Rays. Both teams came out fired up in what is becoming a very hard fought and intense rivalry. The Hawks went w/ their big lefty Cody Fayettte and the Devils countered w/ diminutive but crafty Moe Moe Bradshaw. The Hawks jumped out to an early 3-0 due to again untimely mistakes in the field. However, the Sundevils appeared they wouldn't be denied as they tied the game in the 4th at 3-3 and again in the 5th at 4-4. They broke a scoreless tie in the 6th as they were ignited by a couple of key two out doubles. They couldn't hold off the Hawks in the bottom half of the frame as the top of the Hawks lineup finally broke through to get 2 in the 6th for a walk off victory.
