Battle at the Beach Champs!

EAGLES SOAR AT THE BEACH
The 2007 9u Collins Hill Eagles won the 4th annual Grand Slam Battle at the Beach tournament in Panama City Beach this past weekend, battling hot temps, a cold start, and some tough competition along the way.

The tournament started ominously for the Eagles, as they were defeated 10-0, and held hitless for the first time all season, by the Wills Park Redhawks.  The Eagles' bats started to heat up for their next game, as they took on the Eastside Storm, and the two teams battled to a 5-5 tie.  The third game of the tournament would be the first elimination game the Eagles faced, and they were determined not to make a quick exit from the tournament, as they defeated the Creek Bears 8-5.  The bats would continue to stay hot, as they Eagles would score 8 runs again as they defeated the Milton Mavericks to continue on.  The Eagles' next foe would be a familiar one, as they took on fellow Gwinnettians the Mill Creek Hawks, defeating them for the third time this season, this time by an 8-1 score to advance to the championship game.  The championship would be a rematch, as the Eagles would take on Eastside Storm again, this time looking for a better outcome than the previous tie.  In their final game of the season, the Eagles were victorious over the Storm, winning 8-1 to take the tournament championship.

Eagles defeat Mill Creek, Dacula; fall to N. Gwinnett in championship round
The Collins Hill Eagles secured a spot in the 2007 GGBL tournament championship round with victories over Mill Creek on Friday evening, and Dacula Saturday morning.  However, they were unable to defeat their season-long nemisis North Gwinnett, falling to the Bulldogs 11-3 in the championship round.  The Eagles would finish the tournament as runners-up, after battling their way through the loser's bracket with 3 wins.

Congratulations to the Eagles on their regular season GGBL championship, and being tournament runners-up.  The Eagles should be extremely proud of their season.

The Eagles wrap up the 2007 spring travel season with the "Bash at the Beach" tournament in Panama City in 2 weeks.

Eagles regular season GGBL Champions
Congratulations to the Eagles for finishing in first place at the close of the GGBL regular season.  The Eagles finished in a 3-way tie with Dacula and Mill Creek.  All three teams finished with 15-4 records, but in a 3-way head-to-head tie breaker, Collins Hill had a 3-1 combined record against the other two teams, while Mill Creek was 2-2, and Dacula was 1-3, thus giving first place to the Eagles.

Congratulations to the Eagles players, coaches, and families for all their hard work, dedication, and support.

The GGBL County Championship begins this weekend.  The Eagles will play their first game of the tournament on Sunday June 3 at 1:00 p.m. at Dacula Park as they take on the winner of the Lawrenceville vs. Peachtree Ridge game on Saturday.
