ANACORTES — Chehalis won twice Sunday to clinch the American Legion Northwest Class A Regional baseball title.
Chehalis beat Box Elder (Utah) 13-5 and Vauxhall (Alberta) 10-6 to claim the title of the eight-team tournament at Volunteer Field.
Chehalis’ Edgard Burgos went 2-for-5 against Box Elder and 2-for-4 against Vauxhall on the way to earning MVP honors.
Robert Pehl, a teammate who pitched in relief in each of Sunday’s games, was named the tournament’s most valuable pitcher.
Chehalis, which lost its first game of the tournament, won five straight to take the title.
It is the 12th regional champion from Washington in the 24-year history of the tournament.
Chehalis led Box Elder 9-5 when Tyler McCarty hit a ninth-inning grand slam to put the game out of reach.
Against Vauxhall, Chehalis trailed 3-1 going into the seventh inning.
It scored four runs in the seventh, two in the eighth and three in the ninth on the way to the title.
