LOST A HEARTBREAKER TO GET ELIMINATED

In a see saw battle against Rancho Niguel tuesday night, Laguna Niguel did not go down without a fight. DeLAny on the mound for the home team LN Stars, things started out very similar to their first meeting last week. Rancho jumped with two runs real early and looked like they would have another big first inning but a double play stopped them short, as Barrom fielded a ball at first tagged the bag and threw to Vogeler who applied the tag for the double play. LN came back with a couple of their own to tie it up, with a double from Raymond and singles from DeLany, Barrom and Ulnick. Ranch then scored two more and Coach Pete put in Morrison who shut them down the next three innings.

With Rancho ahead 4 - 2 in the bottom of the third Raymond and Barrom came through again, Raymond leads off with a homer, DeLany walks and Barrom singles, and a Ulnick ground out scored DeLany, and a Mendoza ground out scored Barrom to take the lead.

Ranch scored one in the fifth to tie the game, but with the mighty trio coming up things looked good for the LN Stars, but it was the Rancho pitcher who looked good striking out the side 1, 2, 3.

The game tied going into the sixth RN was able to get a run in on a miscue, but that was all they got. LN got there first runner on via an error, then King with a 8 pitch at bat walk to put runners at first and second, thats where it ended as LN got no breaks and Rancho played all out defense. Morrison hit a grounder that couldn't quite get past the shortstop, De Leons grounder hit the bag at third and goes right to the 3rd baseman and Vogeler hits a sharp grounder up the middle that the Rancho shortsop laid out and made the grab and was able to tag the bag while laying down.

Was really a great game but a tough way to go.

LAGUNA NIGUEL DROPS ONE TO RANCHO

The Laguna Niguel All Stars lost to the Rancho Niguel All Stars, and will have their work cut out for them in the losers bracket. The tone was set in the first inning as Dyer singled and Vogeler walked two on and no one out things were looking good for LN, thats when it you could tell the breaks were not going their way, with two out and runners at second and third, Barrom hit a rocket up the middle that would probably score two, but instead the ball hit Vogeler to end the inning and they did not score.

With Dyer on the hill Coach Pete was confident things would turn around, but it didn't, everthing Rancho hit was just out of reach of their defense and Rancho scored seven in the first. The LN All Stars hit the ball very well all game but right at people, they just could get that timely hit or break.

After the first inning Mendoza came in and pitched very well for 4 innings, the big hitters for the day were Dyer with 3 hitsRaymond with two hits Faicchio, DeLany, Mendoza and Morrison with one hit each.

LN faces South irvine next

PRACTICE BEGINS FOR THE LN ALL STARS

The Laguna Niguel All Star team begins practice Wednesday evening. Coach Pete, Coach Don and Coach Jim are excited to get this team on the field and see what they have. We do know there is a lot of talent, hopefully they can grasp the magnitude of what can come of this experience.

Coach Pete told me in the morning interview that this team has a tremendous amount of potential and wants to take it one game at a time, hoping to get a win in the first game and keep rolling from there. He also mentioned that he is not sure that the boys know what is at the end of the rainbow here, and he and the other Coaches will try to get that across to the boys.

I will be at every practice keeping you posted on the teams progress and more interviews.
