Whitby Hornets u9 Boys Home Page
Web page for the 1999 Whitby Boys Team Number 4 - Hornets coached by Will Prentice.
Take a look at "My Site News" for game updates and other important info!
Don't forget about practice nights! I encourage all parents to come out for practices. Practices are a lot of fun and a great way to learn more about the game! Coach and the moms won the scrimmage last week!!

What a Barn Burner!!
Offensively
gifted, defensively suspect - that about sums it up! Christian and
Riley did as well as they could in net. The opposition penalty kick was
a suspect call and we gave them far too many counter-attack
opportunities. Their shooting was almost as good as ours.
Thankfully, our forwards were spot on again. Kiano lead the pace with
three, Ben and Lukas added a pair each and Liam notched another one.
Daniel and Mark kept feeding the ball up from the midfield, while
Nathan and Jonathan did well defending against a pair of skilled
strikers - the gold team got all six goals from two players.
We'll work on defending a bit more next week. Happy Canada Day!

Yellow Hornets Keep Stinging!
Second
clean sheet in a row for a team that is playing every position
exceptionally well. Lukas and Liam combined for the shutout, with both
standing tall and not backing down to a stubborn opponent. Nathan,
Tyler, Riley and Jonathan anchored our backfield and made sure to play
the ball up. Daniel, Ben, Mark and Christian kept feeding the ball up
to our forwards. Sheldon's first hat-trick of the season and Kiano's
deuce reiterated how powerful the Hornet's stings are.
Great game, Hornets. We'll use this week to work on those passing skills and some set plays.

A bit of a blowout!
Well,
the floodgates opened and the Hornets swarmed their opponents. Eight
lethal stings and Jonathan with a complete game shutout were the key
highlights. Kiano picked up the first hat-trick of the season, but no
hats were seen on the turf - disappointing ;-( Rounding out the scores
were Lukas with a pair, Leam, Sheldon and Ben notching singles.
The game really was as dominating as the score implies - Jonathan
wasn't tested often, but was ready when he needed to be. Our defence
was solid, midfielders looked like Hoovers sucking the ball up almost
every time the other side pressed forward.
Just so everyone is aware, I instructed the players to not shoot on net
and to pass the ball around a bit more after the score was 6-0 and
there was no sign of a test from the other team. Thanks to Ben and
Sheldon for following coach's orders and missing the net or dropping
the ball into the corners.

Hornets Fight Back!
Okay
- tough, rough game with a few dirty opponents. The official is fairly
new, so my expectations for her weren't very high. She did admirably
considering what she was up against.
The other team's lack of discipline and unfair play took something from
the game, but the boys gave back where it counted - 4 goals, including
Sheldon's second to tie the game in the dying moments. Christian
blasted one in the first half to help our momentum as we fought back
from 3-1 down. And the ref made the right call in awarding Nathan a PK,
which he calmly buried.
Big thanks to Nathan and Ben for keeping the ball out of our net as
often as they did. Four goals isn't bad for house league, especially
considering their chances. Our keepers made some great saves!!
The boys showed a lot of character fighting back from 3-1 and 4-3
deficits - not letting a late goal from the other side spoil our
unbeaten start to the season.

Two in a Row!
Another exciting match - this time
with a full roster on the pitch. Great teamwork and spot-on passing led
to another positive result for the Hornets. Lukas was lethal from the
spot for his second of the game, Christian crashed one in off the post
and Kiano began his season with a perfectly placed shot. Thankfully,
Jonathan and Tyler played well in net, with help from the uprights, to
maintain our one goal advantage at the end. Kudos to Ben and Riley for
their hard tackles in our end and Liam and Mark for keeping the
pressure on in their zone. Nathan's runs down the wings and Daniel's
persistence in the middle led to our holding pressure and coming out on
top.
