What a game!

In what felt like the longest 9 inning game that man has ever seen, the Senators picked up another victory last Sunday, defeating Voorhees, 12-11 in a thriller. The Senators trailed, 9-0, at one point before finally waking up and putting together a true team performance. The victory was sparked by an 8-run 6th inning, followed by 3 in the bottom of the 9th to seal the victory.

Tony Frese again led the hitting attack, going 3-5, with 2 triples (both in the 6th inning) and 4 RBIs. Rob Schumin went 4-4, while Gregg Matusewitch went 2-4, including driving in the winning run on a fielder's choice.

Mike Arcaini came on in the 8th and pitched 2 scoreless inning to pick up the win.

The Senators wrap up the season with a doubleheader v. the Woodbury Royals at the Woodbury YMCA. Game time starts at 12:30.

Yesterday's game

There are no words.

Finally!

The Senators came out this week, and finally showed that they can win a game. The bats coming alive, the Senators banged out 17 hits en route to scoring 18 runs, defeating the Voorhees somethings, 18-6. Although the hitting was spread out throughout the lineup, Tony Frese led the attack, going 3-3, with a HR, and 5 RBIs. Ty Brunett went 4-5, scoring 5 runs, with 2 SBs.

The Senators try to make it 3 in a row on Sunday, taking on Cherry Hill for a doubleheader.

Lethargy in a uniform

The Senators came out flatter than flat. The result: a 12-3 defeat at the hands of the New Egypt Beavers.

On the positive side, Doug Lutz welcomed himself by going 1-3, with an RBI and run scored. Mike Arcaini showed that his arm will be used later in the season. Rob Schumin continued his hot hitting, going 1- 2, with a double and run scored.

The Senators continue to look for their first win next Sunday, with a doubleheader v. Marlton A's at Deptford.

Makeup Game v. Deptford

The game will NOT be this weekend (5/25). The makeup date will be announced later.

Monday, May 5
What might have been....

The Senators lost Sunday, 6-5, amongst the cornfields and lost train cars of New Egypt. Leading 5-2 in the bottom of the 9th, they couldn't close it out. The Beavers scored 4 runs in the 9th without getting an out to win the game. However, there were many bright spots in the game.

Tony Frese led the hitting, going 3 for 5 with 3 stolen bases, a bloody knee, and an eternal hatred for Little Leaguers taking too long to play a game. The Schumin gene pool showed its hitting prowess with Mr. .325 career hitter and his son both getting 2 hits apiece.

Dustin Serra played a stellar CF. Somewhere, Stuart Scott had a seizure trying to come up with catchy phrases for the plays made by Nails.

The wins will follow gentlemen, the wins will follow....

Shears to Manage Young Sens in 2008

MGR SHEARS
New 18+ Senators Manager, Gary Shears

By Nick Frese

Turnersville- The 18+ Washington Township Senators officially announced today that Gary Shears will manage the team for the 2008 season. Shears, a veteran of SJMSBL, brings great knowledge of the game, superior communication skills, and a great attitude to the table. He is currently a secondbaseman on the 25+ Senators team.

"I am here for two reasons," Shears said, "First, to build a winning team in the Senator tradition, and second, to let these kids have fun playing baseball. I love the make-up of the team already, and will continue to find and bring to the table 'character' guys who know how to play this game."

Shears, recently named Vice President of the SJMSBL's 25+ Division, appears eager to take on the challenge of building yet another winner in Washington Township.

"(Senator GM) Nick Frese has built something pretty neat here," Shears said, "And it's great being a part of such a multi-layered baseball operation. It's easy to find players who want to be a part of a system like this. I just love the fact that the young guys can always lean on members of the older teams -- who have been around the block in this game -- for guidance and help in becoming better players."

Shears will be officially introduced to the team at their upcoming workout on February 10th at Sportz Central in Bellmawr, NJ.

"I am just thrilled to have Gary in this position," said GM Frese. "He has been a blessing to the 25+ club already, and now I'm hoping he'll bring that same magic to the young Sens in 2008 and beyond. One thing I know for sure: the kids are gonna LOVE playing for him, and I believe they'll be right in the pennant hunt all year long."

The young Senators are expected to open the season around April 20tt or 27th. They will be playing their home games at Deptford High School's varsity field.
