Granite State Shockers to Disband

It is with great regret that we announce that the Shockers organization is disbanding for various reasons.

With only 4 players on the roster with previous ASA experience, the Shockers accomplished a lot for a first year team: one invitational tournament victory and a 4th place finish in the NH ASA State championships.....a great year by most standards.

We'd like to thank everyone that helped and participated in the experience over the course of the year:

-- The parent volunteers that coached, organized fundraising, provided financial accounting support, and were supportive fans

-- Our many sponsors for their generous financial support

-- Nashua Extra Innings and TJ Sheedy for providing the players the best professional hitting instruction that the area has to offer

-- The many teams, tournament organizations, and umpires that make the ASA world turn

-- Kollsman and Anheuser-Busch for allowing us the use of their fields

-- The players who did the really hard work week in and week out

-- Anyone else that we missed above

...many thanks and best wishes to all in 2008,

Coach Norm

Shockers Semifinal Showing at the Nor'Easter Classic!

In Saturday pool play, the Shockers posted victories over the Westford Wildcats and the RI Lightning, and fell to the tough NH Lightning in the last game of the day.

The Shockers opened up Sunday elimination play with an 8AM victory over the RI Lightning. In the second game, we found the A pool's top seeded New England Firebirds waiting for us. In an incredible game, the Shockers edged the Firebirds in 10 innings under international tie breaker rules.....not a game to be forgotten anytime soon.

That set up another showdown in the semifinals with our friends down Rt 101, the NH Freeze. Another hard fought battle, but the Shockers fell 7-6.

Congratulation to the NH Freeze for taking it all over the Diamond Gems in the finals.

Our thanks to the tournament organizers and officials for conducting a great tournament!

Shockers Finish Fourth in the NH ASA State Championships
The Granite State Shockers competed in the NH ASA Class A 14U championship tournament in Keene NH on June 22 - 24. The Shockers had a great tournament, finishing in 4th place out of a highly competitive field of 18 softball teams from across NH.

The Shockers started the tournament on Friday June 22 with a tough first game matchup against Concord's NH Lightning. In an exciting game, the Shockers edged the Lightning 5-4.

In their next game on Saturday, the Shockers prevailed against Nashua's Diamond Gems 7-4 to remain in the winners bracket.

That set up a show down with the perennial NH powerhouse, the Rochester Slammers, on Sunday morning. The Slammers bats were working well and the eventual tournament runners-up knocked the Shockers into the losers bracket with a 16-5 win.

But the Shockers' tournament was not over yet. The Shockers rebounded in the next game with a 5-2 win on Sunday afternoon over the always tough girls in green, the Bedford Hornets.

The Shockers next game matched them against the NH Freeze, who had already won six losers bracket games in a row following a first round loss to the Slammers. In an exciting game, the Freeze eliminated the Shockers 5-4 to secure a 3rd place finish and the right to play the Hudson Heat Fire in the final game of the losers' bracket.

Congratulations to the Hudson Heat Fire that won the tournament with two consecutive wins over the Slammers in the finals as a long day of Sunday play drew to a close.

In the photo below, the Shockers thank their sponsors whose support helps makes it possible for these girls to participate. From L-R: Rachel, Brianna, Kelly, Manager Norm, Ada, Colleen, Rebecca, Jess, Stephanie, Aimee, Coach Chuck, Kate, Britney, Emily, Coach Kathleen, and Kara.

Rochester Slammer Classic
On June 15-17 the Shockers travelled north to Rochester NH for the Slammer Classic ASA tourney. It was a good opportunity to see the best competition in NH the week before the NH ASA state championships. It was a great tournament and our thanks go out to the organizers, ground crews, and umpires for a fun weekend.

The Shockers went 2-3 on the weekend, with two of the losses coming to eventual champion Londonderry and runner-up Rochester. But we had a couple of good wins including an international tie-breaker in the first game of elimination play on Sunday. Great job team.

Many thanks to the tournament organizers, our tough opponents, and to all of the parents, relatives, and friends that supported the team so well this weekend.

Evolution of Design

Our logo has evolved. The poor little softball, shocked by a lightning bolt has morphed into a tough customer, chewing up and spitting out the same lightning. Thanks once again to Dave Bouchard.
