SEASON FALL FINALE
Stingers finish 3rd after going 2-1 in pool play, losing in the semi's to the Lady Aces.... Coach Thomas - "We lost our first pool play game, but didn't hit - our pitching was good enough to win and we played good defense. The HR Vipers just put together a few back to back hits and scored all of their runs in one inning. It was good game by both teams... We turned it up in the next two pool play games and played very complete games, winning both... We entered the semi finals playing well by beating a very solid Orion Hunter team.... In the semi final game the Aces capitalized on our errors scoring 3 runs in the top half of the first...They had the momentum from the very first batter and never relinquished it. Plain and simple we just played flat in the semi's and you have to give credit to the Aces - they didn't make any mistakes..... The old addage that defense wins Championships is so true........... Overall we are real happy with our performance and felt this was a well run tournament held at super facilities"

RICHMOND FALL CLASSIC
The Stingers take runner up after falling short in the Championship game. Here's what Coach Thomas had to say "Most of the teams were pretty evenly matched, our first three games could have gone to either team and we were glad to win 2 of the 3 games. Our bats finally showed some life and we began to hit like we are capable of hitting -- and this against some solid pitching. I am really impressed with our teams progression from the left side of the plate, we dragged, slapped and hit real well from the left. I think our left side offense generated some excitement and it cared over. I get as pumped up over a drag bunt that advances a runner as I do a shot into the gap (well almost as excited)... This group is just so unselfish, they understand the need to advance runners and will do whatever it takes. That's just good fundamental fastpitch and that's who we want to be... We also saw some timely hitting, which is something we've been lacking this Fall. In a tie game, with the bases juiced and time expired Makayla pounds a bullet into left center for a bag clearing triple and we win the game - it was just super and I was really excited for Makayla. There were a lot of really nice hits by multiple players, but I have to recognize Elaine for the bomb home run she hit into left center. You could tell from the minute it left the bat that it was gone, it just sounded so good... We didn't play perfect defense, but we played good enough to stay in games. But we need to get a handle on the uncharacteristic errors, they will come back to haunt you and our defense has been our backbone. I love our current pitching staff, they threw really well all day. All of our pitchers have a different repotoire and approach.. With these differences they really compliment each other. Even though we lost got spanked in the Championship by Zero Tolerance, it was a great experience for our team to play against a team like ZT. They might very well be the best team we have ever played and it's no shame in losing to them. You learn alot when you play the best and that Championship game was a great experience for our players and will really help our program. Overall it was a good event and I hope we can carry it over to our next tournament!"

USSSA VIRGINIA STATE TOURNAMENT - Sterling, Virginia

Stingers play in championship but fall short after a very LONG weekend, but still claim runner up in the state tournament and earn a well deserved berth to the USSSA Nationals at Disney in Florida.

The bats were ripping this weekend, absolutely ripping throughout the Stinger line up. But even so we left a number of runners in scoring position in critical situation's. Failing to secure key hits prevented us from being crowned "state champions". We'll keep working, the key hits will come and when they do so will the runs - watch out!.....

Defensively the Stingers were fundamentally sound making all of the routine outs and then some. There were so many great plays there's just no way to mention them all. Deserving of recognition, Becky's diving efforts at first were again displayed, our pitchers love her dedication to catch a ball in the air. The Stingers turned their first TRIPLE PLAY in team history against the Crushers in a very critical situation. It was a fly ball to Haley, then a throw to DW at first, then a throw to Makayla at second. That's playing the game the right way and knowing in advance what you need to do... The triple play came at a very improtant time in the game as the Crusher's had first and second no outs.... There were many other great plays, but it's rare to get a triple play, especially in fast pitch - congratulations Stingers!

As usual, the pitching trio of Tyler, Becky and Jojo wa awesome. You guys kept us in a position to win every game - there were no let downs... Thank you girls for your effort to your game...

A rain shower in Saturday's final game was called in the second inning due to storms. The game ended at 10:15 pm which resulted in the Stingers having to return to the field Sunday by 8:00 am before a drive of 1 hour and 10 minutes. Needless to say Sunday was a very long day and it caught up with us in the Championship. We definetly had many chances to win the states, but just came up a little short. Hey runner up at States is a pretty big accomplshiment and the team should be very proud of their accomplihments.

This was a GREAT tournament for the Stinger and we played some great ball, some of the finset ball of any team in the tournament.

Congratulations!!!

2009 SPRING TOURNAMENT UPDATES

Mothers Day Shootout - WOW what a tournament, it was one of those weekends where we really couldn't find our sticks..... But even so, some strong defense and outstanding pitching kept the Stingers competitive with chances to win even against the tournaments top teams. Would like to recognize everyone for their strong defensive contributions and to Jo-jo and Becky for two of the most awesome run down tag out's I've ever seen - pure determination... And to Tyler for throwing out a hitter from centerfield! Now that's playing the game the right way..... Keep your heads up, the sticks will come back around and when they do - watch out!........

Ramblewood Rumble (April 25-26) : After a rough day of pool play on saturday, the Stingers rebounded on elimination Sunday placing third after losing in the semi finals to a tough, and eventual tournament champion, Outlaws softball team. Strong finish, but let's not wait til Sunday next time!....

  • Congratulations to Tyler on her home run which sparked a hitting FRENZY!
  •  Congratulations to Katie for anther triple!
  • Congratulations to Alexis for some very nice drag bunting!
  • Congratulations to Tyler (1), Becca (4) and Becky (3) for turning the first ground ball double play in Stingers history, a 1-4-3 double and the good news is we alomost turned it twice!

Easter Shootout (April 11) : Another third place finish with a few missed opportunities being the difference in the gold. Fantastic pitching by all of the Stingers and again some strong defensive play. Congratulations to Elaine on her three run homer, to Katie on her triple and to Haley who had a double and triple and was red hot at the plate! Keep working, good start to our season.

Stingers Christmas Party 2008 Team

 CHRISTMAS 2008

Simply Stated the Stingers 2008 Christmas party was a BLAST!

In typical Stinger Fashion, there was plenty of great food, beverages and deserts to "go round".

The gift exchange was "crazy"! - apologies go out to DW who had her gift "traded" at least four times, but ended up with something really kool - SUPER MODEL MAKEUP! We shoulda' guessed that Teewee would be the only kid to pick the gift she brought, only problem was Becky, DW, and Haley liked it more! Katie wins the award for the most creative way to "keep your gift". Immediately after opening those cool Bee Slippers, Katie put them on her feet! No one wanted those slippers after being on Katies feet - Stinkiiiiie! Bet Katie wore em' to school!

Would really like to THANK the Cabrera's: Dave, Mary, Torrie, Caterpillar, Thomas and Nick for opening up your homestead and agreeing to host this event. Just as we assured you, your place is still standing even after the STINGERS "made house".....

Merry Christmas and PEACE TO ALL --

STINGERS CONCLUDE 2008 SEASON WITH A BOWLING PARTY

The 2008 Stingers Fast Pitch Team concluded their Fall Season with a WILD Bowling Party at AMF Lanes in Fredericksburg.

The event was sponsored by local radio station THUNDER 104.5, so it was fueled by some Sserious party music to include Southern Rock, Country, Hip-Hop and R&B. They played it ALL and played it LOUD.... just the way we like it!

The Stingers really "tore up" the lanes -- literally...... we had to call for lane assistance at least 8 times and that was just in the first game!

The pitchers seemed to have a slight edge, especially when they used their screwball and curveball grips to smack out those dreaded corner pins....

One of our players, who we'll call "Jane", set a new record at AMF Fredericksburg Lanes. "Jane" was the only player in history to roll a gutterball with gutter guards up and in place! How she did that I'll never know, but I know it happened because I had to stare at the ball, all night long, stuck between the gutter guard and the gutter! Several other Stingers tried to repeat "Janes" feat but had no success.  Congratulations "Jane" you are now a record holder......

Can someone please explain to Teewee that all the bowling you can bowl for one price does not mean that you can take over other people's lanes! For those that aren't aware, some poor soul bowling next to us went to get his kid a bag of pop-corn. He wasn't gone long, but when he returned Teewee was on his lanes, bowling during his thrid frame of HIS first game! Teewee chill kid, we got plenty of our own lanes :)

Halfway through the first game Thunder 104.5 lit up the Karaoke stage and that was it - bowling was over, there was a mad dash to the stage to let the singn' begin!

We had no doubt the Stingers could bowl, but who knew they could sing?! Hey this spring we can practice our singin' during the games, between pitches.... and if Mr. Cabrera will help us we can sike the other teams out by singing in espanol!

Okay, next American Idol tryout date:  August 14, 2009 - Washington DC - Verizon Center. The Stingers will be there, catch us on TV -- ya'll.

Thunder 104.5 had more contest's and give aways than Jimmy Carter has little liver pills... WOW everyone walked out of that place loaded with prizes to include enough free bowling tickets to last you until next year!

The hot dog eating contest was rough, we watched only -- Thank You Very Much... Plain hotdogs with no ketchup or mustard or onions or relish or chili?, nothing, dry dogs -- that's just plain nasty...... Had Mr. Jones been at this event he woulda won it... He'll tear up some dogs with or wIthout condiments, it doesn't matter to him... You ever seen him eat? We have..... WOW he can put it down... Mr. Jones woulda crushed that fella that won... no doubt!

What's that image at the top of the page all about?

That's Mr. Wallace he was the big winner of the DONKEYBALL... Guess why they call it a Donkeyball - duh?!!

Here's how it worked. You had one ball to bowl a strike, if you made a strike your name was entered into a hat and whoever's name was drawn won the DONKEYBALL. Mr. Wallace bowled a strike and then his name was drawn = DONKEYBALL winner, see how that work's!

To quote Mrs. Wallace: "GREAT now I have two Jack A%$*#@...."

Mrs. Wallace really wanted to keep the ball and put it on ebay and sell it to the highest bidder, but Coach Aylor (Karen not Anthony) feel in Love with the Donkeyball and was heartbroken when she didn't win it.......

Mr. Wallace being the kind hearted fellow he is, GAVE the Donkeyball to Coach Aylor so she could put it on her fireplace mantel and cherish it forever. WOW, what a guy!

EVERYONE agreed this was a SUPER fun event and a great way to celebrate the end of a very successful season....

Thanks to all who particpated and to those who could not make it - we missed you!

Peace Out Cub Scout!
