Welcome to 2009 11U Armour Baseball!
The Armour Baseball Organization was established five years ago with 2008 being a banner year for the organization with all four age groups (9-12’s) qualifying for the Elite 24 at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. As a result of the 2008 10U Armour’s success, the team has been selected by Slammer’s Baseball (Colorado’s Premier Baseball Instructional Academy) to partner in managing the 2009 11U team. Slammer’s Baseball is owned and operated by ex professional major league players Mark Holzemer and Clint Zavaras who are personally handling the team. The professional staff is responsible for working with the team on advanced baseball skills and training. The Armour coaches feel this partnership with the Slammer’s staff will help provide the best teaching/training they can receive at this age and level of experience. The 11U Armour Baseball Team (2008 Honorable Mention Team) returns seven of its top players from 2008’s Elite 24 Tournament squad. This is a very talented team with all players having seen extensive time on the mound including hard throwing right-handers, Austin Wood, Anthony Warneke and Christopher Helbig. The left-handed hurlers include Dominic Duran and Austin Gusman. Nate Sweeney and Paul Richy are two great catchers who can also come out of the pen and pitch. There are three new key additions, right handed pitchers Jake Eissler and Blake Mattey, along with Pitcher/Catcher Jesse Gonzalez. The Armour squad is very versatile with players being able to play multiple positions. They are very balanced in size, speed and power and half of the team hits left-handed which will make it very challenging for opposing pitchers in 2009. The 11U Armour Baseball Team is coached by Brent Wood, Rich Helbig and Cass Gusman. Vice President of Baseball Operations will be manned by Brian Sweeney. The 11U Armour Baseball Team has two missions, “work hard and play great baseball.” Their main goal is to make it back to the Elite 32 Tournament at Disney. Their tentative schedule includes the Spring Training Super NIT in Phoenix, AZ in March. Regional Tournaments include, Super NITs in Kansas City, Mississippi, Colorado and Omaha before finally finishing up at the Elite 32 World Series in August.
